Common questions

What is a healthy blood pressure?

Around 120/80 mmHg is the reference point most people see, but your personal target depends on your age, history, and medication — that's one for your doctor.

How do I measure it properly at home?

Sit still for five minutes, feet flat, arm supported at heart height, cuff on bare skin, then take two readings a minute apart. Same time of day each time makes the trend readable.

Does salt really matter?

For many people it does, and most salt comes from packaged and restaurant food rather than the shaker. Cutting back is worth trying.

Which exercise helps most?

Regular moderate activity — brisk walking, cycling, swimming — has the best evidence behind it. Consistency across the week matters more than intensity on any one day.

Should I change my medication?

That's a decision for your doctor alone — never adjust or stop medication based on general advice, including from Dr Jo.
